Habitat for Humanity of Westchester is visiting Haiti and making a long term partnership with the country. We will be building homes there and taking groups over the long run. Here is some of what we are planning to do.
We are creating a long term volunteer village, helping with immediate clean-up and salvage of materials.
Assisting with creating movable shelter housing that Habitat has utilized in other earthquake areas.
Assist with construction of long term permanent housing, including Earthquake reinforced homes.
Habitat of Haiti has already been building for 25 years in Haiti all over the country. They have built more than 2000 homes there over that time. All Habitat Haiti staff has survived as of this time.
Also Habitat for Humanity of Westchester has a partnership with local Haitian American ministers and congregations who are assisting with efforts over there, as well as here in the relief.
We also will be looking to reintegrate people back here in some unique ways with a concentration on the children of Haiti.
The president of the Westchester chapter of Habitat for Humanity will leave Sunday for Haiti on a mission to lay the groundwork for future relief efforts in the earthquake-stricken country.
